okay
things seemed to be resolved re: the article. she made my changes and deleted the suspect sentence (she admitted to finding it on that website, but acted like it was no big deal). fine. i want to see the final draft before it’s published. i’m annoyed, but i still want it to be published since that experience mattered to so many people i know…
more on the editorial thing
yeah, so my friend who’s been an editor and also had a number of books published wrote back and told me some of the behavior i mentioned is unprofessional and just plain wrong.
there was that one sentence that was bugging the hell out of me, because it was inserted, and it frankly, felt very false. i knew something was up with it. so i looked at the website of the creator of the work we performed last spring.
well guess what? i found that exact sentence on HIS WEBSITE, with only one word changed. SHE PLAGIARIZED his words and inserted them as part of MY article.
are you fucking kidding me?
seriously. is this for real? i made my final revisions, edits, etc. and sent it back to her, with a long section detailing why that sentence needs to go, including that i found it on his website.
i want my revisions to stand and no more revisions from her. there is nothing wrong now with the article, except that she needs to delete the plagiarized information.
now i don’t feel bad at all. i’m not a difficult writer, i’m an astute one who picked up on something fishy and that’s why i’ve been upset.
glad i discovered it. if it doesn’t get written the way i want it now, i’m withdrawing it.
