woo hoo! accepted!

i submitted some stuff last night, and made an excel file of places i’ve already submitted to and places i intend to submit to, to start keeping track of things better. i ended up with 25 things on the list (so far). it made me realize just how much effort i really should be making to get my work published. seriously, i have hundreds of poems (at least two or three small book-length collections by now) and a bunch of short stories, and then of course, there’s the novel which is not finished and i have a second book of fiction brewing in my head.

but the point of my post: i submitted one poem that i wrote very recently to a call for work for an anthology. i just got an email from the editor who said “beautiful poem” and accepted it for publication :)

yippee! my first poem published in an anthology (rather than a periodical).

Hey, I’m also looking to publish a fiction as soon as I’ve finished my book, is there any place you could suggest to have a look at my work?

I’ve been told that getting short stories published first in literary journals and small presses is the best way to show your ability and then approach publishers about a full length book.

There are countless places, but pick ones that you like to read and that seem like they actually publish what you write.

Try the Writer’s Digest Guide to Fiction Publishers for suggestions.
